International Undergraduate Students

Application Deadlines

International students interested in applying for undergraduate admission must meet the following requirements and submit the required materials by the application deadline:

  • 1 July - for students applying for the fall semester
  • 15 October - for students applying for the spring semester
  • 1 March - for students applying for the summer semester

Admission Requirements

Students applying to the University who are not United States citizens must meet the following standards:

  • Perform satisfactorily on the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language):
    • minimum score of 550 or higher (paper test)
    • minimum score of 213 or higher (computer test)
    • minimum score of 79 or higher (Internet test)
      or
  • Perform satisfactorily on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
    • minimum score of 6.0 or higher
         
  • Achieve a secondary school (high school) grade point average equivalent to 2.6 on a 4.0 scale  
  • Prove financial ability to pay for the entire program of study  
  • Submit official scores for the ACT Assessment (ACT) or Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) for first- time college students who may be eligible for consideration for University Scholarships.

The following items must be submitted by international students who wish to enroll at The University of South Dakota:

  • Application Fees are non-refundable
  • Fee must be paid before your application will be processed and must accompany your application to avoid delay in processing

Certification of Finances
  • Original bank statement indicating the amount or funds necessary to attend The University of South Dakota
Official TOEFL scores
  • Official scores for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or
    International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
  • TOEFL web site

Official Transcripts
Other
  • First-time undergraduates who are in the United States as exchange students, completing high school in the Unites States or are completing English as a Second Language (ESL) at another school, need to complete the transfer form to have their SEVIS record transferred to The University of South Dakota.
